Required Notice Period

According to New Zealand tenancy law and your rental agreement, you must provide:

  • Fixed-term tenancies: Notice to vacate at the end of a fixed term should be given at least 21 days before the end date.
  • Periodic tenancies: At least 21 days' written notice is required.

Failing to provide adequate notice may result in additional rent charges.

Move-Out Checklist

To ensure a smooth move-out process and maximize your bond refund, please complete the following checklist before vacating:

Cleaning

  • Thoroughly clean all rooms, including floors, walls, and windows
  • Clean kitchen appliances inside and out
  • Clean and sanitize bathroom fixtures
  • Remove all personal items from drawers and storage areas
  • Vacuum and clean carpets

Utilities & Services

  • Transfer or disconnect utilities (electricity, gas, water)
  • Provide forwarding address for mail
  • Cancel or transfer internet service
  • Return all keys, access cards, and remotes

Final Inspection

  • Schedule final inspection with property manager
  • Take photos of clean, vacated property
  • Complete property condition report
  • Provide bank details for bond refund
